Wonderful Afternoon

This afternoon was one of the best afternoons in my life.

Every single visit to the Nery’s makes me fall in love with them even more.

Nothing much happened. We were doing Music, and I asked them to write what music means to them. How they feel about it. Gelo would write very little, but when talking with me, would not stop until he runs out of breath. Maggie wrote the prettiest expressions I’ve read about music. :)

At the dinner table, we went on with our essay-writing (consists of 20% writing, 70% telling me stories not related to the subject, 10% getting juice from the fridge and having multiple servings)….

It was all picturesque.

Maggie would move away as Gelo tried to get his way. Gelo, sensing that he’s gone a step further, would make it up by engaging her in a conversation.

At one point in the lesson, we were imitating animal sounds.

Maggie: “I can do this!” (blowing on a closed fist and sounding, what I think was, a duck.)

Gelo: “Hey! I can do that too!” (attempts, but sounds like someone else’s stomach grumbling in the morning)

Me: “Can you do the pigeon? Krrrrrooo, krrrrrrooo.”

Gelo: “Kruuuuu, kerrrrrr, karrrrr”

Maggie: “Kuroooo, krrooo.”

It was funny.

And then a minute later Gelo was pleading Ate Maggie to let him blow on her tummy a fake fart. Maggie rolls her eyes and chuckles, but agrees in the end. She lets Gelo raise her blouse a bit enough for him to blow a tummy fart.

“Pfffrroot!”

Maggie: “Hey that tickles!”

And then we’re all laughing.

At the other end of the table, Maggie gets closer for a return blow. Gelo anticipates, holds his breath, and a fart-sounding tummy blow was delivered skillfully.

More laughing.

Thank You God. :’) For these little moments. Special little moments that make life wonderfully meaningful.

“Chance encounters are the best,” so a friend says. “Mahiwaga talaga ang buhay.”

Looking back, that day at FA when I was at Mang Nestor’s and a father approached, looking for anyone who could teach his kids…

I couldn’t agree more. :)
